Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. This chronic disease most often starts in adulthood around age 40. People with diabetes have elevated blood glucose (sugar) levels, which damage the body over time if left untreated. In people with type 2 diabetes, this is because the insulin in the pancreas does not work properly (insulin resistance) or the pancreas does not make enough insulin. Insulin allows the glucose in the blood to enter cells and fuel our bodies.
