Cliniques Universitaires St-Luc

The service for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology of the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL) takes care of children and adolescents with hormonal, metabolic and nutritional problems.

The team of the Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology service of the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL) has developed, in collaboration with other services of the paediatrics departement, specific clinics in the following areas :

• Growth and puberty :short and tall stature, delay and early puberty
• Nutritional pathology : obesity, dislipidemia in collaboration with the Dietary Service and the Infant Psychopathology Service
• Multidisciplinary care of children with Prader Willi syndrome
• Metabolic disorders : diabetes, with stimulation of therapeutic autonomy through education by a specialized team
• Congenital and obtained thyroid disorders
• Adrenal disorders and disorders of the sexual development, in collaboration with the Paediatric Urology Unit
• Follow up of children and adolescents with endocrinological disorders after treatment for tumours, in collaboration with the Paediatric Oncology Service and Paediatric Neurology Service
• Disorders of calcium and phosphorus, including hereditary forms of rickets, in collaboration with the Paediatric Nephrology Service
• Follow up of children with hypoglycemia and specifically infants with persisting hypoglycemia caused by neonatal hyperinsulinism, in collaboration with the Paediatric Neurology Service

The medical team of the Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology service of the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL) is involved in medical research on childhood diabetes (unité PEDI of the Medical Faculty of the  l’UCLouvain), obesity, growth and adrenal disorders.

The group is reference center of the ERN (European Reference Network) and actively involved in the European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and the Belgian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (BESPEED).
