Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS)
Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS) or Russel-Silver syndrome (RSS) is a rare growth disorder that occurs in about 1 in 30,000 to 100,000 newborns. It is a genetic disorder caused by a change in the DNA (genetic material).
Small for Gestational Age (SGA)
Small for Gestational Age (SGA) is the medical term for a child who is 'too small' at birth for his/her gestational age. About 5% of children are born with a low birth weight and/or short birth length for their gestational age. The medical term for this is "dysmaturity" with regard to growth.
Tall stature
Some children are clearly taller than their peers from a young age. Other children suddenly start to grow faster and surpass their peers. So “being tall” and “growing fast” can mean several things.
Thyroid nodules
A thyroid nodule is an unusual growth (lump) of thyroid cells in the thyroid gland.
Most thyroid nodules are benign: they are small cysts or benign tumours (adenomas). But some are malignant (carcinomas). It is therefore very important to have a thyroid nodule examined by a doctor.
Turner syndrome (TS)
Turner syndrome is a combination of abnormalities caused by a genetic defect. It occurs in 1 in 2000-2500 live girls but is much more frequent in spontaneous miscarriages.
